"Johnston County's Outstanding Teen 2014 is...#2 Emma Carter!!!"

WOW!! What an incredible weekend I have had! Saturday night, February 15th, I was honored to be crowned Johnston County's Outstanding Teen 2014. My journey in the Outstanding Teen program of the Miss America Organization is sadly coming to a close this year because of my age, but what an awesome opportunity to serve Johnston County my last year as an Outstanding Teen! I'm truly thrilled and motived more than ever to reach for my goals and achieve them! Saturday night after it was all over I described to my best friend, Kari, that it felt like a big humbling slap in the face. I have never been awarded so many awards at one time! I've worked and prayed very hard for it, but I was never expecting all of that. People's Choice, Community Service, Fitness, Talent, and the Johnston County OT crown was placed on my head. All I could do was thank God!! I found the words "I'm SO excited" slipping off my tongue nearly every minute! My Miss, Kensley, is such a precious friend of mine and I couldn't be more thrilled to spend this year with her!!! If you haven't figured it out yet, I'M SUPER, DUPER, ABSOLUTELY, WITH ALL MY MIGHT EXCITED! God has blessed me and my first priority is to give Him the credit!

What Self-Love Did For Me

Some time around 2013 I wrote my very first blog. As I told you before in my latest post, this was an outlet for me to be an encouragement. Over time, however, it turned into a personally therapeutic pastime. I found myself filling my drafts folder with things I wanted to say, but never had the guts to share. I would write about experiences that hurt me, taught me, broke me, and molded me. I never could quite press the publish button. At one point I deactivated my whole blog site to where I was the only person who could view it. It seemed that I needed my own advice the most at times. Skinny & Fat

If it were up to me the words "skinny" and "fat" would be permanently erased from our minds. All my life I've been told I'm too small, scrawny, boney, thin enough to blow away, and things of that sort, like it was okay. Is that really any different than being called fat? It's the same thing, just the opposite end of the spectrum. That fact is that being called fat or skinny, either way, is so wrong and you should NEVER let those terms define you.  Being happy and healthy are what matter. I've always struggled with feeling too skinny and too small. We live in a society where a Kim K booty is what is viewed as attractive, and if any part of you is flat then no part of you is pretty. If you ask my opinion that is a load of garbage. Kim K is beautiful in her own way, just like you, and just like me. Comparison is the thief of joy. Please please please love your body. Woman or man, boy or girl, old or young. LOVE YOURSELF!!!

My Week at Falcon Children's Home

Shew! It's been a while. As many of you know I spent last week, Monday-Friday, at Falcon Children's Home. In order to complete the last level of the Duke Of Edinburgh Award that I've been working to achieve for the last 3 years, I had to do a residential project. I've been around Falcon, NC my whole life. Naturally that was the first place that came to my mind. My family has been affiliated with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church for decades. I've always had an enormous amount of respect for the work that FCH does, but you never can truly appreciate something until you experience it. I wrote 14 pages in a journal in 4 days. I'll be sharing parts of what I wrote during the week too. So, my spill begins. I arrived Monday around noon. I felt ready, confident, and excited to feel some independence!
